Air pressure testing

Most new properties now require an Air Pressure Test. This measures the uncontrolled air flow through gaps in the fabric of a building. The lower the air permeability of a building, the better it will perform in the SAP calculation and EPCs.

Our Air Pressure Tests are carried out in accordance with ATTMA (Air Tightness Testing and Measuring Association) BS EN 13829, and our Air Test Engineers are trained and accredited.

We can normally use the architect’s plans to calculate the properties envelope areas, but if necessary we can visit and perform the measurements on site.

If a property fails an Air Pressure Test, at Home Energy Audits we will always re-test whilst on site*. This usually involves running the fan to identify any obvious areas of air leakage before we run a second test, ideally achieving a positive result. If the property fails again, we will aim to identify any other areas where air is being drawn in, this usually requires us to make a return visit once the problem is rectified.

Our fee structure is based on the complexity of the dwelling and distance travelled. For sites, it’s based on the number of properties and variations visited and distance travelled.
